UNDER EYE REJUVENATION
The skin under your eyes is the thinnest on your body, which is why it shows tiredness first and why it needs the gentlest approach. PRP improves the quality of that skin using your own growth factors.
WHY PRP FOR THIS AREA
Under-eye concerns are not all the same problem. Some people have lost volume, leaving a hollow that casts a shadow. Others have skin that has become thin and crepey, so the bluish vessels underneath show through. Filler is excellent for the first and can look lumpy or puffy in the second. PRP works differently. Rather than adding volume, it improves the skin itself, thickening and strengthening it over the months that follow so it conceals what sits beneath it.
PRP OR FILLER?
This is the question nobody in our area answers, and getting it wrong is the reason some people end up unhappy with under-eye work.
If there is a defined groove and a shadow, volume is missing and filler usually addresses it more directly.
If you can see fine crinkling and vessels through the skin, PRP treats the cause where filler can make it look worse.
Genuine pigmentation responds better to brightening treatments and strict sun protection than to either injection.
Fat pads that bulge are a surgical issue. Neither treatment will fix them and we will say so.
Most people have more than one of these. We treat them in order rather than all at once.
WHAT CAN UNDER EYE PRP HELP WITH?
PRP is a skin quality treatment. It will not remove a fat pad or lighten true pigmentation, and we will tell you clearly which of your concerns it can and cannot touch.
THE TREATMENT PLAN
A small amount of your blood is drawn and spun, and the plasma is placed into the under-eye area with a very fine needle after numbing. The appointment takes about forty-five minutes. Expect mild swelling for a day or two and the possibility of bruising, which is more common here than anywhere else on the face because the skin is so thin. A course of three sessions four weeks apart is standard, with results building over three to six months.
FAQ’s
It depends what is causing them. If they come from thin skin letting the vessels underneath show through, PRP often helps noticeably. If they come from a hollow casting a shadow, filler addresses that better. If it is true pigmentation in the skin, neither will do much and you need a brightening approach. We will tell you which one you have at your consultation.
Bruising here is more likely than elsewhere on the face, simply because the skin is so thin and the area is full of small vessels. It is usually small and settles within a week. Stop fish oil, high-dose vitamin E and alcohol for a few days beforehand if you can, and do not book this within two weeks of an important event.
Three sessions about four weeks apart is the standard course, with results continuing to build for three to six months afterwards. Most clients maintain with a single session once or twice a year. Because PRP works by improving your own tissue, the gains fade gradually rather than disappearing at a fixed point.
The under-eye area needs genuine care and anatomical knowledge, which is exactly why it should be treated by a qualified medical provider. PRP itself carries no risk of allergic reaction because the material is your own blood. Lindsay is a certified nurse practitioner and will decline to treat if your anatomy or your concern makes it the wrong choice.
The same list as PRP anywhere: blood or platelet disorders, blood thinners we cannot safely pause, active infection in the area, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. We will also not treat under-eye bags caused by bulging fat pads, because that is a surgical problem and injecting around it will not improve it.
